I swear I wrote one of these this year, but I guess I’m mistaken.  Well, since I did it last year, I might as well do it this year too..

MVP : Lebron James

I think Lebron is better than last year.. but you wouldn’t see that.  He is just as dominant this year as he was last year.  And he showed us why as he led the Cavaliers to a 61-21 finish despite losing Shaq for 2 months and Delonte West for a couple games.  He saw his point average increase by 1.3 ppg, and his assist number increase significantly by 1.4 apg.  Although his rebounding numbers dropped from 7.3 to 7, and his blocks decrease from 1.2 to 1.0, he is still a surrounding force on both, the offensive and defensive end.

There is nobody in the NBA better than this man.  Yes, I know, even my boy D.Wade won’t be able to obtain the season’s MVP this year.  I think his best shot was last year, where he was toppled by Lebron.  It’s almost unfair to play with someone so dominant.
Actual: LBJ X 2
Rookie of the Year

If I had to choose, it’d be Stephen Curry.  But it’s not up to me, it’s up to those media people.  I don’t necessarily disagree with Tyreke Evan’s achievement of Rookie of the Year, but think it should be up for debate.  Although Tyreke achieved the 20-5-5 stat as only the third rookie next to Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson, I don’t think Stephen Curry gets enough credit.  As said when the draft occurred, Stephen Curry showed me his improvement from college to the NBA.  Consistency wise, Tyreke has been the most consistent rookie.  But what about statistically wise and chemistry wise?  Tyreke got a lot of media coverage when the Kings were 14-14, something that didn’t’ happen in awhile after the season started.  But, that was when Kevin Martin went out with an injury and it was ‘Reke’s’ Team.  When Kevin Martin came back from injury, the Kings struggled to win a game, going on a 1-12 losing streak. During that streak, he had stats like (PPG, APG, RPG) 15-3-0 against the Heat in a 115-85 loss, and 19-2-4 loss to the Magic, 4-7-2 in a loss to Charlotte.  And in the beginning of the season, before Martin’s injury, we saw Evan’s go 10-2-3, 6-6-2, and 3-4-2.  Of course, Tyreke’s had his share of games, including a triple double (19-10-10) against the Raptors.  He had a game winning basket against the Nuggets.

Why do I choose Stephen Curry?

Statistically wise and chemistry wise, Stephen Curry outperformed Tyreke Evans.  How is it that Stephen Curry could play with a more dominant, ball-hog, shooter like Monta Ellis, and still get his own, all while Tyreke Evans couldn’t play consistently with a shooter, Kevin Martin.  How is it that Stephen Curry played with a D-League roster, yet still led his team to a better win percentage than Tyreke Evans.  I mean, it was only by one game.  Statistically wise, Curry averaged a better shooting percentage from the field, three-point range and free-throw.  He also averaged more steals and assists than Evans.  The blocks and turnovers between the two were the same (Evans .4, .Curry .2 and 3.0, 3.1) respectively.  The only thing Curry failed to get were points, and I guess that’s his fault for getting his team involved.

Curry did all of this in less time (average of a minute) than Evans.  He also did it 2 shots less than Evans.  Other then that, Curry won in all stats besides points and rebounds.  He lost to Evans by 3 points, and .5 rebounds.  Stephen Curry also beat Tyreke Evans to the punch with the Triple Double line.  Curry had 36-13-10 and 3 steals.  Compared to Evan’s 19-10-10..My oh my.  Curry best stat games were  27-14-8- and 7 steals and 42-9-8- and 2 steals and one block..  Evans best game were 29-11-9 and 2 steals and 25-9-11- and 0 steals and no blocks.

Watching the two players, you could tell that Tyreke was more mature.  He wanted the ball to be in his hands while the game was on the line.  But what are you going to do when you have no other star on your team?  We already know that Tyreke Evans couldn’t play with Kevin Martin, resulting the trade of Martin.  When Stephen Curry played, he had to make sure his star, Monta Ellis, got everything he wanted.

Record wise and statistically wise, I think Stephen Curry deserves to be Rookie of the Year.  He played 80 games to meet his average, while Evans played 72 games.  Curry also played with more D-league teammates than any other person.  I think if Evans didn’t reach the 20-5-5 mark, it’d be a huge debate over ROY.  But you can’t argue with stats.  Since everyone had Evans in their mind all year, I tip my hat to Evans.

Sixth Man of the Year

Jamal Crawford will win this years ROY.  He had game winners while averaging 18 ppg this season.  Last years champ, Jason Terry averaged 3 points less than he did the year prior.  Jamal Crawford is a huge lift for the Atlanta Hawks and led the team to a third seed playoff spot.
Actual: Jamal Crawford
Defensive Player of the Year

Dwight Howard.  No contest here either.  Lebron didn’t block as much this year, although there were probably more highlights of him doing it this year than last.  Howard averaged 18.3 ppg, 13.2 repg, and 2.8 blocks this season.  His stats are lower than the year prior, but his team also got better offensively.  I didn’t see anyone else besides LBJ taking the DPOY, but his stats weren’t as good as Howard’s.

Coach of the Year

I’d say Nate Mcmillan.  Scott Brooks deserves a lot of credit, leading his young Thunder to a 50-win season and a playoff berth.  But Nate McMillan deserves a better credit, leading an injured-plagued season to 50 wins as well.  Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook seem like a better, explosive, duo compared to the Brandon Roy and Lamarcus Aldridge.  Durant also helped the Thunder with his league leading 30 ppg.  McMillan had less to work with and Brandon Roy missed 17 games.  The Trailblazers were also without Joe Pryzbila and Greg Oden for most of the season.

I also think that Scott Skiles deserves a lot of credit too.  He led the Bucks to a playoff berth as well, with a rookie Point guard, and without Michael Redd.
